Spy Kids star Daryl Sabara is mourning the death of his father, Roland Sabara, in an emotional and unusually personal Instagram post.

Sabara posted a photo of himself with his father and revealed that Roland had died the night before.

In the heartfelt message, Sabara said he only saw his father a couple of times in his life, but would cherish those memories forever. He added that he believed his father did the best he could and hoped he was now in a better place.

The post quickly drew support from friends, fans and celebrities. Nicole Scherzinger, Essence Atkins, Jordan Fisher and Taylor Lautner were among those who sent condolences.

Sabara’s tribute was especially emotional because he has spoken publicly in the past about growing up without his father.

In a 2023 interview, Sabara said his father left when he was just one year old. He explained that becoming a dad himself had been a deeply healing experience and helped him become the kind of father he always wanted to have.

Sabara is married to singer Meghan Trainor. The couple married in 2018 and have built a family together while sharing parts of their parenting journey with fans.

They are parents to three children: Riley, Barry and Mikey Moon. Their daughter Mikey was welcomed via surrogate in January 2026.

Sabara has often spoken about how much fatherhood means to him. He has described parenting as giving him purpose, joy and a new understanding of family.

The news of Roland Sabara’s death came shortly after Daryl celebrated his 34th birthday on June 14. Trainor marked the occasion by sharing a sweet family birthday video.

While Sabara did not reveal his father’s cause of death, his message focused on forgiveness, memory and peace.

Fans praised the actor for the grace and compassion in his tribute, especially given the complicated nature of their relationship.

For many who grew up watching Sabara in Spy Kids, the post was a reminder that behind the child-star image is now a husband, father and adult processing a painful family loss.
